Rwanda is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills”. The country is perhaps most known for the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, during which an estimated 800,000 to 1 million were killed in just 100 days. Rwanda has since undergone a remarkable transformation, becoming a model for post-conflict recovery in Africa.
Country economy relies on agriculture, with coffee and tea as major exports, though the government is diversifying into services, manufacturing, and tourism. Mountain gorilla tourism in Volcanoes National Park is a significant revenue source and conservation success story.
